I’ve spent most of the last four years playing keys and acoustic guitar on stage with Ellie Goulding. I left that job at the end of 2013 to focus on finishing a record of my own music, and also to expand my work to include more variety and personal creativity. Touring with Ellie was an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience, but when it’s time to try new things, you can’t ignore that. I’ve spent the first part of 2014 working as Musical Director for Lauren Aquilina’s live shows, as well as playing with her for a special stripped-back filmed version of her new EP at Steinway Hall in London.

I got my RME Fireface UCX towards the end of 2013, and it’s been a real Swiss Army Knife for me already. It ran the tracks for my first gig of songs from my record at Koko in October, playing the opening slot before the fantastic Lissie. I chose another Fireface UCX to do the same job in Lauren’s live setup for this spring too, and we had the two Firefaces running in tandem for the live EP filming. That session is being mixed at the moment, and is sounding delicious.

I chose RME for two reasons – I used an RME interface on a session in Berlin back in 2009 and I remember being really impressed with how forward and open the sound felt. And then the reputation for stability, which so far my unit has lived up to.

Coming up in the near future my first goal is to finish my record and get that out into the world – it’s been a long time coming! Aside from that and my work with Lauren, I’ve got a few studio writing dates in the diary – I’m looking to expand that side of my music-making as much as possible.
