Pro Audio dealer KMR are now stocking the Graham Audio LS 5/9 monitors, with a pair available to demo at the company’s showroom in north London. The store has one of the most extensive demo facilities in the UK, with a wide variety of pro audio hardware available to try out.

The Graham Audio LS 5/9 is a high-end, passive loudspeaker characterised by an exceptional level of mid-range detail and old-school aesthetics. Designed by Derek Hughes in co-operation with Volt Loudspeakers, each set of speakers are built and tested as a matched pair at the company's facility in Devon, and built under license from the BBC. The speakers have a long and intriguing history, and have received high praise from such reviewers as MusicTech and Hifi+.

Built under license from the BBC

Originally designed in-house by the BBC, the LS Series of monitors were created to meet the high standards demanded by the broadcaster, and to provide continuity for their engineers when moving between studios and control rooms.

Equally at home in a domestic setting, the LS 5/9 has an open and expansive mid-range that excels at revealing previously unheard details from even the most familiar recordings. They combine an openness and transparency with an extraordinary level of detail – these speakers are truly a work of art. Exquisitely recorded material is an absolute joy to listen to, whilst the flaws of poorer quality mixes are immediately made apparent to the listener. The sound of the LS 5/9 also closely matches that of the larger Graham Audio LS 5/8, and the smaller Graham Audio LS 3/5. Both the LS 3/5 and the LS 5/8 can also be made available for listening on request.

A classic design with an impeccable pedigree

When compared with the majority of today's studio monitors, the LS 5/9s offer something different. Unlike the current trend of most modern manufacturers in producing a brighter and more clinical sound, the LS 5/9s really invite you to listen in – in fact the most common adjective used to describe these speakers is ‘musical’.

Here is what MusicTech had to say about the LS 5/9s in their review;

“The LS5/9 is a traditional-sounding passive monitor built to the highest specifications as required by the BBC. Its resolution of the natural timbre of musical instruments is first rate and rhythmic timing is spot-on. The deep and wide soundstage enables sounds to be placed precisely within a mix and pinpoints subtleties lesser monitoring systems gloss over. A classic design with an impeccable pedigree.”
