The recently launched RME Fireface UFX+ has been described as RME’s most comprehensive audio interface to date, and this has now been recognised by well-known pro audio publication MusicTech. Giving the interface a perfect 10 out of 10 score in their review, the magazine also awarded the interface their “Excellence” accolade.

With a massive 188 channels, the Fireface UFX+ features analogue, ADAT, AES/SPDIF and MADI I/O, plus USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt connectivity. Reviewer Marc JB was clearly impressed with the high-end sound, along with the incredible level of functionality RME have managed to cram into a 1U box, describing the audio quality as"crystal clear" and the workflow as "sublime".

Speaking about using the UFX+ on a session in his studio, Marc says “the UFX+ was stable, intuitive and a pleasure to have during the long hours of recording and reconfiguring the live room. I asked some friends who are working in big pro studios what they recommended in terms of an interface and RME has a very good reputation for high-quality PRO products.”

He also praises the UFX+'s potential to form the centrepiece of professional recording studios. “I want one! This is a perfect hub for a professional, futureproof studio. The Fireface UFX+ with TotalMix FX combine to deliver a sublime workflow and crystal audio quality.”

Route anything to anywhere with TotalMix FX

Marc was also quick to comment on the control and flexibility offered by TotalMix FX. If you haven't come across TotalMix before – it's a bit of a hidden gem – it's RME’s comprehensive routing, mixing and monitoring software controller, which is included with all interfaces in the RME Fireface range. Each channel features an EQ and Dynamics section, as well as reverb and echo/delay effects sends, and you have complete control over the I/O of your device.

You can even route any input to any output, allowing you to create as many independent mixes as you have outputs, whether you're providing monitor mixes to musicians, or sending feeds to front of house or an outside broadcast truck. Regarding TotalMix, Marc says “TotalMix FX has just changed my studio life – it’s so easy to use and incredibly powerful.”
