The RME M-1610 Pro is the German manufacturer’s new high-end 16 in, 10 out AD/DA converter.

Featuring the same outstanding conversion quality of the M-32 Pro AD and DA, the M-1610 Pro combines the M-32 Pro’s analogue-to-digital and digital-to-analogue sections into a single, 1U rack unit.

In this video shot at NAMM 2020, RME Developer Marc Schettke gives us a tour of the features of this upcoming analogue / ADAT / MADI / AVB converter.

RME M-1610 Pro

RME’s development of new audio converters began with the RME ADI-2 Pro, an award-winning AD/DA converter and headphone amplifier designed originally by Matthias Carstens (RME’s Head of Design) as his own personal ‘end-game’ converter.

Upon its public release, the ADI-2 Pro’s stunning audio quality saw it receive a huge amount of positive feedback. With this in mind, the team at RME decided to investigate the possibility of a multi-channel version, for use in professional recording and monitoring setups.

The RME M-1610 Pro features 16 analogue inputs and 10 analogue outputs,
plus ADAT, MADI, AVB, Wordclock I/O and dual/redundant power supples.

This led to the development and release of the RME M-32 Pro AD and DA converters, two 1U multi-channel converters with sonics to rival that of the ADI-2 Series. At the same time, RME had been carrying out extensive research into audio networking technologies, settling on AVB (Audio Video Bridging) as the preffered format – as such, the M-32 Pros were the first products to feature AVB networking connectivity.

Such quality and flexibility comes at a price however, and thus there remained a demand from users for a more cost-effective solution – less channels, but the same premium conversion quality.

The result is the RME M-1610 Pro, a scaled-down hybrid of its siblings that combines the two into a single unit, offering the same exquisite conversion quality (in both directions) in a more affordable package, whilst the retaining the flexibility offered by ADAT, MADI and AVB I/O.

The RME M-1610 Pro will have an RRP of £2,499.00 and is expected to begin shipping in June 2020.
