Calrec Audio has just announced the release of two new expansion packs for its popular range of compact broadcast consoles, the Brio 36 and Brio 12<\/a>, increasing the number of internal DSP channels by 50%. This takes the total number of available DSP input channels from 64 to 96 on the Brio 36, and from 48 to 64 on the Brio 12.

All audio channels within a Calrec Brio console can operate in Mono, Stereo or 5.1. Each channel, known as a \u2018leg\u2019, occupies one of the available inputs to the on-board DSP. Within a Calrec Brio, Input legs are then assigned to faders, creating a channel path. Features within the channel path, such as Direct Out and Auto Mix Minus, also benefit from the DSP upgrade. <\/span><\/p>\n

A standard Calrec Brio 36 can mix and process up to 64 legs. With the new upgrade applied, Brio users will have access to an additional 32 DSP inputs (and an additional 16 on the Brio 12 console). A higher number of DSP legs is especially useful when working with stereo or 5.1 paths, <\/span>so this upgrade will be a welcome addition for Brio users working with a large number of audio channels.<\/span><\/p>\n

The expansion packs require v1.1.6 or above to operate \u2013 the latest versions can be downloaded for free after registering your Brio via the official Calrec website<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

All new Calrec Brio desks can be purchased from us with the upgrades installed, and for existing users the DSP expansion packs can also be purchased directly from Synthax Audio UK.
