The RME Digiface Dante is a lightweight and portable 258-channel audio interface, combining the power of Audinate\u2019s popular AoIP format with the industry-renowned reliability of RME drivers, and the flexibility offered by RME\u2019s TotalMix software<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Featuring 128 (64 I\/O) channels of Dante and 128 (64 I\/O) channels of MADI (also switchable to Wordclock), the Digiface Dante provides Mac and Windows users with a huge number of channels via a single USB 3.0 connection.<\/p>\n

An on-board headphone output provides direct monitoring straight from the device itself*, and with the added ability to run the unit standalone, the Digiface Dante can also be employed as a dedicated MADI <> Dante format converter (including monitoring when preconfigured via TotalMix FX).<\/p>\n

*Can also be used as an unbalanced line output, for connecting studio monitors with a Y-cable.\n

Music production website Pro Tools Expert recently put the interface on test as part of a studio setup (alongside the Ferrofish Pulse 16 DX<\/a> converter – reviewed separately here<\/a>), making particular note of the high-channel count and RME\u2019s reputation for \u201crock-solid drivers\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cRME\u2019s in-house coded drivers are amongst the best in the business and put many other companies to shame,\u201d writes reviewer James Richmond, who goes on to describe the round-trip latency figures as \u201cexceptionally good\u201d.<\/p>\n

Comparing the Digiface Dante favourably with the Digiface AVB<\/a>, another no-fuss interface from RME designed specifically for audio networking, James concludes that “the size of this device belies its capabilities. If you are already invested in Dante and wanted to add another machine, such as a laptop, to your network where you tracked high channel counts then it is probably the best product currently available.”<\/p>\n

The RME Digiface Dante is a USB 3.0, bus-powered interface designed to provide instant access to Dante networking, as well as providing a simple method for bringing MADI devices on to a Dante network.<\/p>\n

Summing, routing and mixing can all be managed via TotalMix FX, with highly accurate metering for all audio on the network. It\u2019s like having an enhanced Dante Controller with the addition of metering and faders, which can be operated via Mac, PC or even wirelessly with an iPad (when used with RME\u2019s TotalMix Remote software).<\/p>\n
