Working with Calrec in the audio domain has allowed us to become true technology partners, rather than a supplier and a partner. This innovative workflow is a testament to that close partnership.”

The Stratford ROC is designed with 8K in mind, so EMG opted for 12G for the video infrastructure. For the audio, a 56-fader Calrec Artemis has been installed alongside an IP-native Type R, with the Type R offering a small format console for music playback operations.

Calrec’s Hydra 2 networking technology (and Calrec AoIP Gateway) ensures SMPTE 2110 is in place for the Type R sub mix console, whilst keeping an eye on future connectivity, with a Calrec RP1 providing a compact remote production option.

The audio workflow allows the ROC remote control of all presentation audio signals via the RP1, allowing the sound team to control parameters like EQ and dynamics remotely, and to provide IFB mixes in real time. Other signals are derived from the OB match truck – and passed through the RP1 via MADI – with intercom signals connected on to the remote Dante network which the RP1 also is connected to. A total of over 200 audio signals are processed and embedded at the OB, with all signals arriving at the ROC through diverse connectivity.

“We have worked with Calrec for many, many years,” adds Foster. “A key aim with this project, alongside the easy combination of the traditional and AoIP, crucial in today’s environment, was to maintain a familiar workflow and operational surfaces for our Sound Engineers. Calrec has a leading market position and its technology absolutely suits our complex needs, both now and looking ahead.”

Anthony Harrison, Sales Manager for Calrec says “As companies continue their move to IP, it’s vital that the familiar isn’t lost and that a clear migration path is also available. This allows people to move at the speed they want to. We’re very pleased that EMG continues to recognise the power and flexibility of our consoles and network solutions, providing the quality experience so vital to viewers.”

Want to know more about the Calrec Type R?
Give us a call on 01727 821 870 or contact us here.

Calrec Type R – Modular, IP-based broadcast console

The Calrec Type R is a state-of-the-art, modular broadcast mixing system designed for radio, TV and outside broadcast production.

Each Type R Core can host up to three independent mixing environments – with no sharing of DSP resources – allowing the creation of various system types that are tailored to operator needs.

Remote control is provided via Calrec Assist, a browser-based interface that allows users to set up shows, memories, fader layouts, patching, bus setup, labelling, input and output levels, input channel parameters (including mic gains), routing and more without needing to be in front of the console.

Control surfaces are offered via IP-based fader panels, small soft panels (SSPs) and large soft panels (LSPs), with a number of rack-mount I/O boxes also available for additional analogue and AES, as well as the newly announced GPIO and Type R Talent Panel.

Find out more about the Calrec Type R

EMG UK has once again turned to Calrec audio consoles for its outside broadcast work.
