The latest Mac OS (Catalina 10.15) has arrived, and we’re pleased to announce that as with previous updates to operating systems, this latest edition presents no problem for owners of RME audio interfaces.

With RME having a long-standing reputation for producing no-nonsense, rock-solid drivers, it comes as no surprise that Catalina is to be supported from the outset. All RME drivers are written in-house, and therefore not reliant on third–party developers. As such, RME Mac users are able to update immediately and continue working without interruption.

Several pro audio and interface manufacturers have issued warnings to customers advising not to upgrade however – for that reason, we’d still recommend (as always!) holding off from upgrading straight away, as it’s highly likely you’ll have other software or tools that aren’t yet supported.

Whilst OS Catalina is primarily a technology update (with only a few new user features), users of some legacy software may find themselves caught out – for example, 32-Bit applications will no longer be supported, and iTunes will be replaced primarily by the Apple Music App.

RME Driver v3.18

RME’s latest driver (v3.18) provides compatibility between OS Catalina and all RME USB audio interfaces, as well as supporting Apple’s “Notarization” requirement. Beta drivers are also available for RME’s non-USB interfaces (PCle, Thunderbolt and FireWire), so other RME users won’t experience any interruption or delay in their projects either.

Fireface UFX / UFX+ / UFX II / 802 / UCX / UC
Babyface
Babyface Pro
MADIface USB
MADIface XT
MADIface Pro
Digiface USB
Digiface Dante
Digiface AVB

No Third-Party Drivers

With all drivers created by the in-house team, RME is consistently able to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to new operating systems and updates.

“One of the cornerstones of our company has always been customer support and dependability,” says Derek Badala of Synthax USA. “We are proud to say that all of our drivers are written in-house — unlike many of our competition. Further, updates are automatically handled by FPGA technology, which is present in all our interfaces. The combination of these things — along with our known product dependability — means that our customers will continue to experience superior performance without interruption.”
