Pop Audio’s Pop Filter has been racking up the positive reviews recently, with the likes of Sound On Sound, Audio Media International and Production Expert all in agreement that this pop shield ticks all the right boxes. The latest review comes in the form of a video from Youtube channel ReaperTV, who were eager to see if the company really have set a new standard with their design.

Although the humble pop filter might not be the most exciting thing you’ll find in a recording studio, it serves two important purposes – firstly, taming those short bursts of air (known as ‘plosives’) in a vocal that cause pops in your recording, hence the name 'pop shield' or 'pop filter'. Secondly, a pop filter also helps protect your microphones from saliva, which over time will have a negative affect on the performance of a mic, not to mention it’s pretty unhygienic!

an alternative once you've tried this out!" – ReaperTV

There’s also nothing worse than setting up for that perfect vocal take only to find that your pop shield won't stay in place, with the arm having lost its strength and flexibility over time. With these thoughts in mind, the guys at Pop Audio set out to create the ultimate pop shield – one that won’t let you down with a drooping arm or weak clamp, and is built to withstand the rigours of daily usage. They’ve also created three different detachable filters, allowing you to choose the right filter type for the job at hand, and making them very simple to clean (a quick scrub in warm soapy water will do the trick).

In the review, ReaperTV take us through the different parts of the Pop Filter and give us their verdict on the product, stating;

“In use I’ve found that the double layer of the traditional fabric filter really has helped to cut down any issues when doing any kind of voiceovers. As this is generally the mainstay of most users it’s good to see that Pop Audio haven’t scrimped on the filters in favour of the arm’s construction.”
