DirectOut network modules now Milan-certified
DirectOut has officially received Milan certification from the Avnu Alliance for its range of Milan-enabled interface cards – marking a major step forward for engineers looking for reliable, standards-based audio networking.
For those working in live sound, broadcast, or installed systems, this certification means one key thing: guaranteed interoperability. DirectOut’s Milan modules will now communicate seamlessly with any other Milan-certified device on the market, removing the guesswork from multi-vendor network design.
Built on AVB/TSN, Milan is rapidly becoming the go-to standard for deterministic, low-latency audio transport. By achieving certification, DirectOut reinforces its long-standing approach of “building bridges” between formats rather than locking users into a single ecosystem. Alongside Milan, DirectOut continues to support widely used protocols like Dante, RAVENNA/AES67 and SoundGrid, giving engineers the flexibility to design hybrid systems with confidence.
Milan-Certified Modules
The newly certified interface cards are designed for DirectOut’s PRODIGY Series and MAVEN.A platforms and include:
DANTE.MILAN.SRC.IO
RAV.MILAN.SRC.IO
MILAN.SG.SRC.IO
MILAN.MILAN.SRC.IO
MILAN.SRC.IO
MILAN.IO
These modules form part of DirectOut’s modular ecosystem, allowing users to integrate Milan streams into existing digital audio and networking workflows, as well as convert between other network formats such as Dante, Ravenna/AES67 and Waves SoundGrid (including with optional sample rate conversion – SRC).

What is Milan?
Milan is a standards-based Layer 2 networking protocol for professional audio, developed by the Avnu Alliance with leading brands including Avid, Biamp, d&b audiotechnik, L-Acoustics, Luminex, and Meyer Sound.
Built on AVB/TSN, Milan delivers deterministic, low-latency media transport with guaranteed timing and bandwidth over standard Ethernet. By defining a consistent set of rules and certification requirements, Milan ensures seamless, reliable communication between devices from different pro audio manufacturers.
Why It Matters for Engineers
With Milan gaining traction as a standard for mission-critical audio networks, certification ensures predictable performance, precise timing, and simplified deployment. For engineers, that translates to faster setup, more robust system design, and fewer interoperability headaches—especially in complex, multi-manufacturer environments.
“From the beginning, DirectOut has focused on connecting formats rather than creating islands,” explains Claudio Becker-Foss, CTO of DirectOut. “Now that our Milan implementation is officially certified, we’re thrilled to offer our customers another fully verified, standard based solution that complements our existing network formats.
“This certification is a major step in ensuring streamlined workflows, resilient system design, and futureproof audio networking for the entire pro audio industry.”
Availability and Compatibility
All Milan-certified interface cards are available now and fully compatible with DirectOut’s flagship platforms, including the PRODIGY.MP, PRODIGY.MC, PRODIGY.MX, and MAVEN.A.
For engineers planning Milan deployments, certification also means these products are listed in the Avnu Alliance’s official registry – making it simple to specify trusted, interoperable solutions.
