Ferrofish Pulse 16 DX - Moon Modular - Synthax Audio UKFerrofish Pulse 16 CV Series

All three Ferrofish Pulse 16 Series AD/DA converters are now available with DC-coupled outputs (Ferrofish Pulse 16 CV Series). These modified versions have been calibrated for the of sending control voltages (CV), for use with modular synthesizers (such as the popular Eurorack and Moog/MOTM/Synthesizers.com formats) and other analogue equipment.

Please note: This modification is applied at the factory-level and cannot be retrofitted. It is available on new units only.

All six variants of the Ferrofish Pulse 16 are also available with +24 dBu outputs. Please contact us if you’re interested in this option.

Key Features & Technologies

High Quality AD/DA

The latest low latency AD/DA converters from Cirrus Logic and ESS Technology, with sample rates up to 192kHz and sophisticated external circuitry, guaranteeing high-quality sound with neutral frequency response and low THD + N.

All channels handle +20dBu studio level maximum, while each channel is individually adjustable in 1dB steps.

TFT Displays & Headphone Output

Keep track of all analogue channels at any time, with levels for all channels shown clearly via the front panel TFT displays.

Status information and all functions are presented clearly and intuitively – no need to keep checking the the manual. A sophisticated context-sensitive help function shows additional information about the current selection.

Internal Routing Matrix

All analogue and digital channels are brought together in groups of 8 using the internal routing matrix.

For easy monitoring, any channel, mono or stereo, can be selected and monitored directly via the front panel headphone output.

Dante Plug & Play

Integrate the Pulse 16 DX or A32pro Dante seamlessly into your Dante network. Just plug it in and the device is visible on the network, ready to be routed freely using the Dante Controller software.

Together with Audinate’s Dante Virtual Soundcard, the Pulse 16 DX and A32pro Dante turn into universal audio interfaces.

Flexible Remote Control

Comprehensive remote software is available for both MAC and PC, providing simultaneous remote control of multiple Ferrofish devices via MIDI, MIDI over MADI or USB (device-dependent).

All Ferrofish devices are automatically detected and listed in the software.

Multiple Options Available

Available in a range of 16- and 32-channel models, with options for ADAT, MADI and Dante connectivity, plus DC-coupled outputs and +24 dBu.

Various models can also be upraded with MADI Optical I/O at a later date (via the official Ferrofish MADI SFP), along with DSP-plugins (for the A32 and A32 Dante) for syncing with Video Clock and routing submixes to any of the analogue outputs.

How to connect (Studio / Live)

How to add more inputs & outputs - audio interface - Synthax Audio UKWe take a look at how Ferrofish converters can be used with RME audio interfaces for adding additional analogue I/O to any home, studio or live recording setup.

Nearly all modern recording setups will involve some sort of interaction with a Mac or PC (unless you're one of those who still swears by an entirely analogue setup!).

As such, the majority of studios and live rigs will include some sort of audio interface, whether a standalone device (such as those from RME Audio), or built directly into a mixing console.

The majority of interfaces will come with a number of analogue inputs and outputs built into the device (analogue I/O), for connecting equipment such as microphones and instruments for recording (inputs), as well as studio monitors and headphones for playback and monitoring (outputs).

However, have you ever looked at an audio interface’s specification and seen a much higher channel count listed than the number of visible analogue connections would suggest? How is it the manufacturer can claim their device has so many extra channels?

The answer is the inclusion of digital I/O options, which can be used to expand the analogue channel count through the use of dedicated multi-channel AD/DA converters, microphone preamps, or a mixing console... Read the full article

Remote Control via RemoteFish

Ferrofish RemoteFish Software - Synthax Audio UKRemote Control your Ferrofish Converters (Mac/PC)

Ferrofish’s RemoteFish is a free software application that provides additional remote control of any Pulse 16, Pulse 16 CV or A32 converter from a Mac or PC, allowing for control over input and output gains, channel routing, device status and settings, as well as the saving and loading of presets.

For the Ferrofish Pulse 16 / CV models, control occurs via MIDI or MIDI over MADI (Pulse 16 MX and DX only).

For the A32 and A32 Dante, both versions can be operated remotely via USB, MIDI, or MIDI over MADI.

Multiple units can also be used together from within the same software window, with each unit easily identifiable via the Serial number on the left-hand side of the user interface.
